Welcome to the California Vocations Community Hub—a vibrant, supportive space designed for learning, growth, and connection. This thoughtfully designed structure serves individuals on the autism spectrum, offering daily activities such as cooking, education, and social interaction in a sensory-considerate environment.

All the design choices made were rooted in research, which shows that individuals with autism often respond positively to natural and earthy tones. Inspired by California’s native flora, we curated a calming palette featuring hues drawn from forget-me-nots, honeysuckle, California poppies, wild roses, wild cosmos, bluebonnets, foxglove, and daisies. A cool-toned tan acts as a transitional shade, creating visual continuity throughout the space.

To support comfort and function, vinyl flooring was installed for its durability and easy maintenance, while acoustic wall paneling helps manage sound and reduce sensory overload. In consideration of the needs and preferences of our clients, wayfinding strategies—assigning a distinct color to each room— were incorporated to support routine, orientation, and a sense of organization.
