About Me.
My name is Jacqueline Valerie Cabrera, and I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture and a minor in Studio Arts, with an emphasis in sculpture. Originally from Los Angeles, I relocated to Chico, California, to pursue my academic and creative passions in architecture and design.
My interest in interior architecture stems from a deep curiosity about how spatial design can shape experiences and evoke emotion through thoughtful choices in layout, materials, lighting, furniture, and orientation. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve developed a strong focus on sustainability and biophilic design—two principles that are prominently reflected in my portfolio. I believe designers have a critical role to play in addressing the climate crisis, and I am passionate about creating spaces that are both environmentally responsible and aesthetically meaningful.
During my time at Chico State, I actively engaged in community-focused projects. These include contributing to the redesign of the Chico Islamic Center and developing quick floor plans for individuals impacted by the Paradise Fire. I also interned with Professor Rouben Mohiuddin at Design SI, where I enhanced my technical and professional skills in a collaborative studio environment. This experience strengthened my abilities in communication, teamwork, time management, material board development, site measurement, and proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, InDesign, Photoshop, Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
I am currently seeking entry-level opportunities in design firms that prioritize sustainable practices and are committed to making a positive environmental impact. I bring with me a strong work ethic, the ability to adapt quickly, and a readiness to contribute to both creative and operational aspects of a project.
